Mechanical-Biological Waste Treatment - MBT

Mechanical-Biological Treatment – Municipal Waste: utilisation instead of landfilling

Municipal solid waste is a mixture of different, mostly recyclable raw materials. Modern mechanical-biological treatment technologies enable us to separate and reuse these raw materials. Biological drying technologies are able to biologically dehydrate leftover waste and so reduce its amount. The specific humidity can be reduced to less than 15%. This makes it easier to mechanically separate the materials and increases the heat value drastically.

After the drying process the recyclable ingredients can be mechanically separated and to some extent be sold as high quality, genuine raw materials on the resource market. That way they are efficiently and value addedly returned to the raw material cycle. The remaining waste-materials are used as hygienically inoffensive, almost odorless RDF (refuse derived fuels).
